SCHOOL IMPACT SERVICES

Last year, approximately 400 refugee students started school in Fort Worth ISD. Many of these students have never been to school and have never learned to read or write. They have fled their home countries and come to the U.S. looking for safety. The School Impact Program provides services for these refugee children and their families to promote effective integration, education, and a successful transition to the U.S. public school system.

Services include tutoring and group counseling for children and parent orientation workshops on the U.S. School System. Information and trainings on refugee populations are provided to teachers and faculty in Tarrant County public schools. Volunteer tutors work with children both during school, after school, and on the weekends to teach English and basic skills.

Service Criteria:

  • Must have documentation proving refugee, asylee or victim of trafficking status.
  • Must be 3 years or less from the date of arrival.
  • Must be a child enrolled in public school in Tarrant County. If you are a public school teacher in Tarrant County who works with refugee children, you can contact us at SchoolImpact@ccdofw.org or 817-534-0814 for more information.
