BUSINESS VENTURE: WORN
WORN is a socially-conscious business venture of CCFW. The mission of WORN is to provide refugee women living in the United States an opportunity to utilize the traditional skill of knitting to increase their families’ household income, thus empowering them to rise above poverty. Each product is hand-knit by refugee women out of their home, overcoming significant barriers such as language, transportation and child care.
100% of the profits from this project go directly back into the community through Catholic Charities Fort Worth to further equip the women with the necessary skills to become self-sufficient.
WORN is the brand behind the knitted scarves, providing income to refugees who hand-knit the scarves. 100% of the profits from the scarves sold at retail go towards providing supplemental income for the knitters, the rest is reinvested back into CCFW’s over 40 programs. Catholic Charities has partnered with the University of Texas at Arlington to study the financial and social implications of this project on the families with refugee women earning this supplemental income. Together, Catholic Charities and UTA are working to promote self-sufficiency and dignity in the lives of the women and families resettled locally.
